I used to work at a retail store in which the manager wanted to be open on Thanksgiving, thinking people might come in and buy books for those last minute cooking emergencies. Or to do some really early Christmas shopping.

The same manager insisted on opening on a day when the region was preparing for a really bad snowstorm. I was asked to come in because I was nearby, but I told them no. Apparently they did make a profit, albeit a very small one.

Also yes when I served in the US Army. Even though it was peace time (1970's) I always offered to take the Battalion or Group Duty Officer assignment so the married guys could be with their families.

Then when I worked in Iraq for the DoD I worked every holiday. It was a 7/24 assignment.

Yeah I am in the military. I have worked all expect one Christmas in the past 5 years. I have also missed a lot of other things like the kids bday and stuff. Its one of those things is sucks but you learn to suck it up cause it could be worse. For example last yr I spent christmas in Korea away from my family and 2 years ago I was in the desert. Luckily this year they delayed my deployment and I dont have to leave until the day after Christmas.

yep, I got stuck working a Christmas Eve (the day we usually celebrate) at a gas station food court. We had one customer all night. Me and the guy who I was working with ended up having a huge pizza dough fight and did NO work. ;)
