I am pretty sure they are the same. There is no such thing as 'double' size sheets at the department stores... only closest is 'full'. I am not absolute on this but pretty sure :)

First of all there is no such thing as a double bed! Double bed is a hotel motel industry term meant to imply that the bed is big enough to sleep 2 without promising what size it will be. The official mattress sizes are;
Twin (AKA single)
Full (big enough for 2 but still small)
Queen (comfortable sleeps 2)
King (royally sleeps 2)

Nothing ,except for what part of the country you are from. They are the exact same. However the differance between a queen and a double is about 6 inches in width

single bed- 1 person
double bed - 2 people, or more space for 1 person
queen - usually a couple, but a single could have one
king - same as queen.

There is not any diff. in the size. It all depends on wether you are buying a cheap set or a good set
