What school should be my goal??

I am a senior in high school and I have finally come up with what I want to do, I would like major in Hotel/Resort Management or Hospitality Administration. I am so lost. No one to help me or keep me on track.

Getting a Diploma from WHAT school will get me a GURANTEED job in a prestigious hotel such as the Marriott in NYC?

I've heard that University of Nevada at Las Vegas has a great program (and a whole lot of hands on training). You should shoot some emails to different hotels asking them how they got to where they are, etc. People LOVE talking about themselves and you might even get a free hotel stay out of the whole thing.

Keep in mind that it isn't your education that guarantees a prestigious job--it's your work experience. Your education just helps you open the door initially. But by contacting these people now you can start networking. Maybe you could get an internship or something. Good luck!

I would place Cornell at the top of my list, were I you. They have a School of Hotel Administration that I hear a lot about. Also, half of college students end up changing their major while they are in college. Should you decide to change, you would still be at a world-class university (an Ivy League school at that) whose degree would carry a lot of weight.

That said, getting into the best in the world shouldn't be your top priority. What you need to do is to get into the school that is right for you. Your undergraduate experience should be four of the most interesting, enjoyable, and rewarding years of your life. Don't allow yourself to chose a school that will make you miserable simply because US News and World Report says it is a good institution.

Whatever you decide, good luck!

See links I've posted below.

Can you just hop into the Marriott in NYC? Perhaps not - you may have to prove yourself in lesser hotels first, but if you're into and you have the right background, you can go all the way.

Learn ALL aspects. Work in housekeeping. Work the front desk. Carry bags. All these things are what the GUEST interacts with, so if you've worked in them, you know (1) what the guest wants and (2) what is reasonable to expect from your employees and what they have to deal with.

Good luck!
