What are the risks of a internet domain? and are they worth the money?

They OK if you can Build your Site and not pay someone. I had one years ago, just friends and family stuff. I really did not put the effort into it I should have. I thinking of trying another one and I been checking out this place; http://www.lypha.com/
But, I not sure, I want something good, yet, as cheap as possible.
I should add. One problem is Spam, companies/people trying to get you to have them advertise your site and stuff like that, just be aware.

There are no risks...they're worth the money if you're making a website.
