Don't you have more parentheses?

(x^2-64)/(2x+16) *5/(x-8) looks about right.

(x+8)(x-8)/2(x+8) * 5/(x-8) =
(x-8)/2 * 5/(x-8) =
5/2

I'm guessing you mean

[(x^2 - 64)/(2x +16)] [5 / ( x-8)]

x^2 - 64 = (x + 8)(x - 8) {difference of two squares}

2x + 16 = 2(x + 8)

The expression reduces to 5/2

(x^2 - 64 / 2x +16) * (5 / ( x-8))

((x – 8)(x + 8)/2(x +8)) * )5/(x – 8) = 5/2

((x^2 - 64)/(2x + 16)) * (5/(x - 8))
(((x - 8)(x + 8))/(2(x + 8))) * (5/(x - 8))
((x - 8)/2) * (5/(x - 8))
(5(x - 8))/(2(x - 8))
(5/2)
