I would like to start working for Legg Mason, and after a interview, I was told that they liked me. I was told about 2 weeks later that upper level executives changed the departments, but they were going to offer me the position. The HR woman then said that she was going to help me find other positions, and "put me on a list" for another position (interview order) I have not been called back for a month but I have spoken to them and I was told they are just waiting. How long does the process take?

Thanks for the response. I took initiative and we agree every couple of weeks was alright. However, my phone messages and emails are not returned. I was told that the company is waiting for the managers to "open the position. I believe I am talking to the top "prescreeners", and that she was prescreening for when the jobs do open up. She keeps telling me everything is good, but then does not return my phone call right away. When I finally got ahold of her, she said everything was good. 2 weeks has past since then, and I have tried calling. Are they really just busy, or is it possible that the HR woman is in limbo and does not know what to do?

I am trying to get into the finance industry (a starting portfolio management assistant job or asset management job). I will start on the bottom if necessary because I want to learn. If you look at my other questions you can see a description my work history.
I am hoping someone can help.

Thanks in advance everyone
David

There is no set waiting period. You need to take the initiative to ask if you can check in with them from time to time by e-mail or a phone call. Tell them you are very interested in keeping the lines of communication open . Ask for suggestions in regards to frequency of continued contact.

In my opinion, they have dragged their heels too long and I doubt if they really intend to hire you. Perhaps you got the runaround.
