I would say don't go to guitar center for advice cuz they don't know anything. they are just trying to sell their gear. but go there just to play the instruments. and as far as strings go, if you play often, you should change your strings every 6 weeks. i change mine every 4.

for feel, i would say the epiphone les paul standard is the one you should go with. with regards to the fender and the squir, just so you know, squir is fender but a cheap model. the fender will feel nicer when playing. it will be smoother.

but out of those three i would choose the epiphone.

The Squier Strat is a pretty good guitar. I have one that I bought in 1994. I took it to a guy and had a set-up done on it which means he went through and made sure everything including the neck and pickups were adjusted properly. I also took it to another shop and had seymour duncan pickups put in it. Humbuckers in the 1st and 3rd positions and a single coil in the middle, plus a seperate switch so I can switch the humbuckers from dual coil to single coil. It works great for me. This may be more info than you wanted. I have a friend who bought a more expensive Strat and it's a piece of dookie. You just never know. I also have an Epiphone Les Paul. It sucks too.

A Squire is a good guitar for beginners, but you will definitely get your moneys worth with an Epiphone.

Les Pauls play really nicely and Strats are nice to have. Theres really very little differance in the guitars. thoses are all really good guitars.

Squier is lic.by Fender. The neck is a TWO peace. But looks like ONE. I play a mexcain Fat Strat l like the maple neck. But under lights you get alot of glar and you can't see the dots.I like the Mex because its a little smaller and lighter than the American. They play very close. cdbaby.com TALIESIN [INNER LIGHT]

I bought a squire off of a friend, and I just don't like the sound of if. This really kind of harsh and doesn't play as well as my old epiphone did.

at the instant not something is properly well worth the cost, ive been playing for approximately 7-8 years and it form of feels your in simple terms paying for the call ,so in case you opt for high quality do your reasearch and pass classic

I would recommend time in a guitar center.
