im 18 years old, and i just came back from a nine hour shift with AT LEAST a five minute break, if that i was also yelled at for eating when my employers know i am sick (bronchitis) and my medicine requires eating or i will throw up, which is very unlady like. mind you,they are always eating. if it is illegal, how to i go about reporting it. please help, the stress and overall bitchiness of my managers is unreal. thanks Xx

It is illegal. they have to give you a 10 min break every 2 hours and a half hour every 4 hours i belive...ck the labor laws, which should be posted near the time clock or employee break room.

You should have had at least 1 meal or rest break if your shift lasted 9 hours. Check with your state Department of Labor Wages and Hour Division, to see how you'd go about filing a complaint.

You call the national labor relations board. It is not legal anywhere in the US to work over 6 hrs without at least a 20 minute break.

Seems like a call to Wage and Hour is in order! But be prepared to lose your job right before x-mas! Make sure it isn't covered in your personnel policy booklet you were given. I think the basic rules are 15 mins every 2 hours and 30 mins if you work over 4, but in certain work environments that is impossible and the issue is normally covered in the personnel policy book to cover their own booties....

It's illegal. You are by law required to have a one hour break, and by agreement could be scaled to an half hour.
Go to your union, or if you don't belong to one file a case with the man power department.
