shouldnt their be seeding in the fa cup, like all the other cups,eg.euro, world, champs league, etc. so "little" clubs wouldnt miss out on "big" pay days, like four "little" teams are missing out this time, cos they cant play liverpool, arsenal, united or villa! you get my drift??

no offence to blackpool, but i bet aldershot or basingstoke would rather be playing arsenal or liverpool, and i bet macclesfield are over the moon getting chelsea.

i think seeding the teams would be a good idea coz small teams can miss out on revenue as it were and i think they should try to avoid a situation where 'big teams' are drawn together in the early rounds as is the case with the liverpool-arsenal game coz we now know for sure that only one of them will proceed to the next round and i dont think thats good from a commercial point of view.

But there already IS seeding in the FA Cup. The better the team, the later it has to enter the competition.

The clubs from the Priemiership and Championship only enter the competition in the 3rd round proper.

Clubs in League 1 and League 2 only enter the competion from the 1st round proper.

Conference National clubs only enter the competition from the 4th Qualifying round

Conference North and Conference South clubs enter the competition from the 3rd. Qualifying round

And so on..the earliest round ( 1st. Pre Qualifying round, for the very lowest level pub teams) was held way back in August.

If you mean "selective "seeding to keep the Premiership giants apart till the semi finals...then absolutely not. It should all be simply about the luck of the draw, or it devalues the excitement. You should never know in advance who you may or may not get drawn against.

EDIT: Yeah, Im sure Aldershot & Basingstoke would have much peferred drawing Man. Utd to Blackpool..but thats just the luck of the draw. And they'll both fancy their chances of being able to beat Blackpool and progress to the 4th round..where they'll make even MORE money AND stand an even better chance of drawing a "big " team.

i understand what your saying but the FA cup is the oldest cup compitition in the world and i wouldnt want to change it dont forget just because anfield old trafford ect would give a big pay day some of the lesser big clubs wouldn't sell out and still knock the minnows out whereas the minnows with a little luck in the draw could reach the semi's without playing a big club??

I think the system is okay when Premiership and Championship clubs joined it in the 3rd round.

And guess what? Liverpool got Arsenal on the 3rd round, surely other 'smaller' clubs will rejoice as one 'big' club will be certainly out of the way.

what they should do is play teams like arsenal, liverpool, chelsea, man utd etc from the first round and then introduce the lower league teams in from the third round to give smaller clubs the chance to progress...

No, I don't. The FA Cup has a certain magic, we shouldn't mess around with it. This way also allows little clubs to progress, I remember Telford getting to the 5th Round one year for example.

I am a leyton orient supporter and was pleased with our draw againt southampton (if we beat torquay in the re-match!!!). I agree that when the draw is made, us "little" teams are looking for the "big" clubs, but we beat fulham last year so anything can happen!!!

Well, look at it this way. For every all-Premiership tie, there is one more lower league side that can progress, therefore increasing the beauty of the cup.

The randomness is good. For all you know, a lower league side can draw other lower league sides all the way to the final.
