I had this exact assignment in 7th grade. The key is finding something round that you can carve into. I went to a hobby/craft store and bought a 6-8" in diameter hard foam ball. You can then cut a slive right out of it as you would take a quarter slice from an apple or orange. Then, find small materials such as candy to colorfully create the inner parts. They can easily be glued or pinned to the foam ball.

i did this project 2 years in a row i used a bowl put in green jello i used a styrofaom ball cut in half for the nucleus with a marble in the center. marbles for the vacoules jelly beans for the mitochondria, obviouesely the sides of the bowl are the cell wall,cheese cloth for the cell membrane, blue gumballs for the vacoules, umm thats al i remember hope it helps

I used gelly to make my model but make sure it is ok with your teacher as some teachers don't allow foods.
