we have coins for $1 and $2... $1 is gold with a picture of a loon on it, so we call it the loonie..and $2 is silver and gold with a picture of a polar bear.. so we call it a toonie... Don't ask... some bullSh*t nonsense our government came up with

You are correct! We have all the other bills (5$, 10$, 20$, etc.), except the one dollar bill. We have coins. The loonie = 1 dollar (instead of the bill) and the toonie = 2 dollars.

We have $5 bills, $10 bills, $20 bills, $50 bills, etc.
We do not have $1 bills. We have $1 coins and they are called "loonies", because there is a symbol of the Canadian loon on the coin.
By the way, a loon is a bird.

Speaking from firsthand experience, we've used our current loonie coin since 1987 and our current toonie coin since 1996 (in terms of year stamp). The corresponding bill notes were gradually phased out to the point where they are no longer in use but can be collectors' items.

Quarter sized gold coins called loonies. I got a couple and no one will accept them here in the states. Good enough reason to go back Canada, which I love!

We have dollar coins. And two dollar coins. They were talking about five dollar coins but people got p*ssed off.

Us Canaidians have dollar coins "Loonies" and also two dollar coins "Toonies", really!
There are no one dollar bills in circulation.

they have paper dollar bills and they have the dollar gold coin... the Looney, because there is a Loon on it.
