IE needs a network connection. It is not fussy, it should work with AOL's, although slowly because of dial up.

Open up your AOL connection, then minimize it. Then click on IE, it should work, albeit slowly.

AOL is famous for screwing up the networking on machines. If you have trouble you may need professional assistance.

IE should work automatically with Internet connection. If it doesn't check to see if a proxy is enabled. To do this, open Internet Explorer, go the tool menu at top, look under Internet options, click the connections tab, click "LAN" settings... if proxy server is checked - uncheck it! And then check automatically detect settings.

Well you have it, I don't see why you need to "activate" it. Perhaps send me an email and tell me the extent of your problem, my email is NOT morlak@yahoo.com but you know how to send email through answers.
