Very difficult
it is deep and very profound.
if they are size 6, the girls will try to copy. if they shoot up, the girls think about it. some do.
being a model carries much responsibility. they are in a position of trust really. they ought to be aware that their actions can have a devastating effect on young girls.
unfortunately, that is more likely to make them go screwey! I would like to see certain celebs involved in taking drugs, giving an insight into how awful it really is rather than how glamorous or exciting.
i think the media needs to take more of a leading role in promoting the models who act responsibly and castigating (being cross with) those who don't. In fairness there are some good people in the press. my dad worked in fleet street. they are aware of the scenario.
both have an effect and also pop stars and tv celebs. There is much responsibility. Anything which appears in the conscious minds of young girls is likely to cause at least a subconscious reaction. Scarey? Maybe a little.
Cracking question.

It is both. It is the media shoving beautiful models at young girls. When i was in high school i was VERY insecure because i was not as thin as the women on the tv, movies, and in magazines. Sex is EVERY where. I am watching tv, and there is always a half naked beautiful girl on there. It makes young girls think that they need to look like that too. That is why i answered a question earlier from a 13 year old girl who wanted to know how to look 'dead sexy' to get boys attention. 13 is WAY too young for that, and girls that young are going to get the wrong kind of attention. It also causes young girls to become bulimic and anorexic to try to look perfect like all the women in the media. I think it is getting out of control, and i hope it ends soon.
I know there are other influences in a young girls life, but i know this was a huge, and very bad, influence on my life. It cause me to have self esteem issues for a long time because i am not 'perfect'

The media in general have an influence on people young and old,but young girls aren't affected as much as teens.

Both have too much of an influence. Sadly, girls will always compare themselves to each other anyway, even without the media. Unrealistic beauty is a side effect of our society, and there isn't a lot that can be done except to remind girls that airbrushing is a common practice these days. Have you seen some of these celebrities and models sans makeup? Yeeeeech!!

Very little since most of the famous models we hear about are not much to aspire to, Naomi Campbell is a nasty woman, Kate Moss is a complete junky. The bigger influence is human nature, take Models and the Media away and people will still aspire to be beautiful and perfect in their teen years, it's a highly vulnerable time.
Anorexia was first noted in the middle ages.

the media has a stronger affect on girls and the general public compared to models influencing young females.

Models are just a tool for the media in my mind. They access young impressionable girls through the use of models. Just look at all the glossy magazines. I think it's disgusting that stick thin girls are used as rolemodels for young people. It puts pressure on them to be thin and also often makes them yearn for material things such as the latest bag, hat, coat and they feel like failures when they can't acheive this. My friend's slim, healthy 8 year old daughter has got into the habit of refusing food because she's 'watching her weight'. I think it's sad that it's come to this!

By virtue of the fact that "America's Top Model" is so popular I would say that there is a drive by the media (magazines, commercials etc.) to encourage young girls to aspire to model-like "qualities." It's sad that too many young girls don't use their own brains to determine what is real, attractive, and important.

They have a lot of influence on young people, BUT it is all of us that allow this BAD influence on the younger generation. The older we get, the more surgery we want, the more hours spent at the gym, the more tattooos we have. It is a matter of blaming others instead of ourselves.
