The ocean is the largest ecosystem on the planet and we are intimately tied to it. If it dies, we are in trouble. Understanding it will help us to preserve it.

1.There are many animals and plants there. Most of those is yet unknown to humanity. As plants and animals sometimes exude substances that might help fight with many diseases like cancer or AIDS.

2. Many people live off of catching rare species of fish or other animals. The further you go - the less known species you will get...

3. Seeking resources like oil is another reason.

4. There are many ways to make research of our world through the ocean - currently the scientists are making researches about dark matter setting the sensors in the oceans, as the water makes a good filter for the unwanted signals.
