can/are birth-control pills be used for anything other than birth-control?
because i recently discovered that my 13-year-old sister is taking them. which is a little weird to me.
i am 16, and i'm bi, and lately, i'm usually only sexually active with guys so i don't know the first thing about birth-control or anything at all.
i don't know. i guess it's none of my business, but i was just curious. i'm not going to ask her about it, but...wow. i mean, she's 13. who does something liek that at 13?!?! god, even i wasn't that dumb. oh well.
thankies.

i didn't mean to come off as attacking her in any way, i guess i was feeling a little big-brotherish.

Yes, the birth control pill is regularly prescribed to girls for all sorts of things - including acne, irregular periods, bad cramping during periods, hormone imbalances, etc.
It's basically because the pill affects hormone levels - namely estrogen. Estrogen influences menstruation, but it also influences other things as well - like acne. So the pill can often be used for other estrogen-related things.
That said, I think the birth control pill is over-used, but the pharmaceutical companies prefer that problems are treated with their drugs, and they wield a lot of financial power in the medical community.
Best of luck & happy brotherly concerning!

Well, first of all, your sister couldn't have gotten the pills without a prescription from a doctor, so she isn't doing anything sneaky.
Second of all, the doctor might have prescribed them for an internal female problem. She's probably started her period and there might be some complications with her system. It's not unusual. Birth control pills are hormones. She may need them to regulate her system.
If you are really concerned, ask your parents or your sister, but don't assume the worst. It's really unfair to your sister.

Yes. Birth control pills can be used to regulate a woman's periods. They can have less cramping and lighter bleeding.

Yeah, birth control can be used for a couple of different hings. My girlfriend uses them to control her acne. It can also be used to regulate periods (like the heaviness and length)

If her periods are abnormal, or she has heavy bleeding, or if she cramps a lot, she may be on the pill to minimize them.
On the other hand, she could be having sex and wants to protect herself from getting pregnant. Hopefully, it's the first thing I said.

they help with cramps and maybe she 's using them because your parents don't want her to get pregnant at a early age so that she can finish school and go to college....................
