I would do it now. You could go into labor at any time. 36 weeks you are considered full term. But it is just going to get harder to get things done as you get bigger and more tired from carrying the pregnancy.

Well at the moment I am 38 weeks and have still not packed my hospital bag. I'm not sure why, I just never seem to get around to it. I spent last weekend washing all the baby stuff as I was desperate to get it done, so at least somethings ready!

I say pack the bag when you feel ready - and if that ends up being too late there is always Grandma or your partner to bring you extras while your in hospital. : ) At the moment I have all the basics together in one spot (eg shirts bras pants to sleep in ) but I haven't actually put them in a bag. (Maybe thats why bub hasn't come yet! He must know I'm not completely prepared LOL)

To actually answer the baby clothes question though, I would say have them washed by the time you are full term(36 weeks), because some of the clothes have starch etc in them that you should wash out before bub wears it, otherwise it could irritate his/her skin. At least this way everything will be ready for when you bring them home, and you will have nice clean clothes for coming home from the hospital.

GOOD LUCK!

I also say, do it now and get it out of the way. If you are worried about the baby clothes getting dusty, pack them away (totally dry!) in large freezer bags.

Also, you won't need that much in the hospital. I packed a lot of stuff for my first pregnancy -- cards, letters I wanted to answer, blah, blah, blah. I had a whole case of stuff that I wanted to go through while I was "resting" in the hospital after birth! (I live in Japan, and the normal hospital stay is seven days after a first normal delivery.) OH, boy! I had an emergency c-section and wound up staying 10 days, but had not a minute to myself! The hospital had us washing the baby, doing this, doing that. And we needed the rest! Changing the kid, feeding the kid, getting some sleep when we could -- it was a constant whirlwind! So, don't pack too many time occupiers. A book or a set of cards should do it for entertainment. You will be going to a combo boot-camp, recuperation ward (-:.

Have fun, and get it done now! And congratulations!

I'm 34 weeks and have everything washed. I did start to pack some things for the baby, but you should be packed and have the car seat installed and ready to go by 37 - 38 weeks. The baby can come two weeks early or two weeks late, but better to be prepared for anything that could happen!! Good luck!!

I'd go ahead and pack my bags now.

I had mine all packed and by the door. When it was time, my husband freaked out (LOL) and forgot them. I was wearing my favorite sweat pink sweat suit & sneakers (nothing else) and went to the hospital. Mind you: it was December, we lived in Germany, and it was about 20 degrees outside! (I can laugh now!)

You can wash baby clothes as soon as they're dirty. But was them seperately from everyone else's clothes and double rinse them. In other words, was normally first and the wash again without detergent. I'm not sure when you can start washing them with everyone else's clothes. Ask your pediatrician.

Good luck!

I'd say start getting everything ready around 35-37 weeks...since you could go into labor at any point once you hit 37 weeks, you might want to start at around 36 weeks...good luck and congrats you your little one on the way!!!

I'd do it all now if I were you. If you go into labor early it will feel good to have things in order. If not, then you can find something else to do with your time near the end of your pregnancy. Good Luck!

Everything should be ready by 36 weeks just in case.
