Last week I went to the doctor and he said because of my high blood pressure I had to be seen every week. He said I need to be "monitered." I should have asked him what he meant by that, but it totally slipped my mind. I know they will be checking my blood pressure and everything, but is there more? What did he mean by that? To be "monitered." Has this happened to anybody else before? Please share your experiences.

I am assuming you are pregnant?? If so, how far along are you?? By monitored he means he wants to keep an eye on your blood pressure to make sure it doesn't get too high, and to make sure baby is doing okay (non stress tests, they will hook you up to the monitors to listen to the baby)...sounds like your doctor just wants to be on the safe side! Be glad for that...there are many dr's out there who just let stuff slide...Your dr may want to induce you (depending on how far along you are) if your b/p gets too high...try not to stress, just relax and hang in there!!! Good luck!

Yes they will just be checking your blood pressure. I also have high blood pressure and they wanted me to come in all the time, but I have 3 other kids and her office is a 20 minute drive, so I just told her to either get me a prescription for a blood pressure cuff, or I would buy my own ...So they agreed, and If my blood pressure is 140/90 or higher I have to call them. Its much easier than having to go in every week or two.

There are chances that your high blood pressure could affect the baby. Hence the regular checkups. Im sure everything will be fine, but they just need to know that the baby is in no danger. You should ask him next time you see him for a detailed explanation. Good luck!

I don't think it's anything serious, or anything in need to be diagnosed. If it was, then he would have told you about it. What the situation probably is, is that your pressure is probably a little higher than it should be, so he just wants to keep a track of your pressure to see if it is indeed a serious problem or not. Good luck, take care of you and the little one, and Congrats mommy to be!!!

It happened to my mom, and its just that your blood pressure is so high he wants to see if it is always like that or it was just a one time thing. He wants to keep a close look on you that's what he meant by monitoring. Good luck.

Preeclampsia. I would rather have you look it up your self. My baby is now 3 months and I had to be watch for my blood pressure, and a short cervix. I was put on bed rest for it. My baby is healthy and fine. I don't want to explain it and have to get you nervous. Good luck. And have a healthy pregnancy.

It means that he will need to keep a regular record of your blood pressure over a period of time and look over it to make sure you aren't going to have any complications or anything like that.
