I know that his death was not a result of any kind of cancer, but I believe that I have seen documentary footage of him with a cigarette. Definitely a genius on many levels, just curious as to a somewhat trivial aspect of his life.

I am not positive, but I seem to remember an article about him some time back that mentioned that he did smoke. And that his cancer was not related to his smoking.
But I agree that he was a genius on many levels as you have stated.

Happy Holidays!

I honestly don't know whether he smoked or not, but some of the people here seem to be implying he died of cancer in spite of what you said. He died of a massive infection in his lungs. He simply waited too long to go to the doctor. When they found out what was wrong, they poured antibiotics into him, but it was too late. One article I read in Newsweek at the time said that if he had gone in even a couple of hours earlier he could have been saved. One friend of his speculated that his Christian Science upbringing may have made him less inclined to seek medical care as soon as he should have (though apparently he had given up the faith some time ago). Others people said that he was just one of those sweet souls who didn't want to "bother" anybody by asking for help when he really needed it.

I don't know if he smoked or not. You could ask Kermit.
