I'd say the "major" 12-Step programs are Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon, Narcotics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, and possibly Debters Anonymous.

Contrary to some of the answers I've received, 12-Step programs do keep records on how many attend. Counting attendees has nothing to do with breaking anonymity.

Those are private meetings so no records are kept.

I've been to NA & AA due to a few DUI/DWI's, and I went for several years, but don't attend anymore. It's hard to say how many goes to those cause it is anonymous. The only thing a person can go by is the court records of all the drug/alcohol related crimes, because most will have to attend them. The 12 step program is getting larger as time goes by if you think the the starters of the 12 step programs were Bill Wilson & Bob Smith.

The only figures I could find were AA's and OA's:

OA has 70,000 members worldwide.

The figures I saw from AA:

I have seen in other places that AA worldwide has increased somewhat in the past few years to just under 2 million, but dropped to less than one million in the US.

I'd bet if you left out NA, all the other 12step groups combined would be less than AA.

That's an unknown since the programs are anonymous.

I'm in an 81-step program, but last week I lost count. I was going to ask my classmates to help me get back on track, but they are all imaginary. I don't know what to do now. It doesn't help matters either when my wife tells me I'm crazy.
