I've recently read that the Netherlands are on their way to legalize Euthanasia for the severely Depressed and Lonely (ex. men and women who cant get girlfriends/boyfriends, involuntary celibates, permanent virgins, senescent folks). The requirement will be proof of the intolerability of the patients life and that the patient has no chance of bettering by way of psychological examination.

This is great news and hope for people like myself who, as a 23 year old American male virgin at an intolerable 5'5" (which will NOT get better), would like nothing more than to go to my local Dr., and obtain a prescription for a drug that will finally put me to a peaceful death.

I know that there are a lot of critics of Euthanasia - I've heard all their vacuous arguments. A person's life belongs only to that particular person - he/she should have the right to relinquish it.

Euthanasia of this kind will no doubt be available to the American public in the future. What are your thoughts?

I am an Agnostic - I do not believe in an afterlife at all.

Arguments of "god" or "Jesus" will not work.

Great where do I sign up?
My problem is why you think being 5'5" is reason to end your life.
I could see it for many reasons, but this. Being short never stopped Napoleon, or Tom cruise. You just have to think big. I think a good counselor could help you learn some social skills, how to dress, improve your looks, and how to talk to people.

Remember, if you kill yourself, you can't ask God for His forgiveness. Your body is a temple, and you must treat it like one. Plus, if you are a Christian, you have the Holy Spirit inside you, and to destroy your body, by assisted suicide, or for that matter, by any means (smoking, drinking, unhealthy eating, having a risky attitude) is against God. It's not Christian to do anything against God, but to live your life and to be obedient to Him. We are here to witness, to spread the Good News of the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We must believe, so we can be saved, and to be in Heaven someday! We must help others get to Heaven, too! If you are depressed and lonely, join a Church somewhere. Join a ministry, and gather with Christian people, where you can make friends and celebrate your life, and Witness to others! Change your life, instead of being sorrorful about it. Good luck and God Bless!

well...I support it only if it is a terminal illness and the person is in pain that will never get better. I don't however support it for people who cannot get a date. That is silly. Okay...so you may not get a date now...but who knows what will happen in the next few years. Just tough it out and enjoy the beautiful sunshine!!!

I've been a supporter of assisted suicide a la Kervorkian. Help for terminally ill people unable to end their own lives makes sense to me.

However, and this may sound really insensitive, but can't depressed and lonely people end their own lives without assistance if they really want to? I'd worry, if someone I REALLY loved REALLY wanted to die, that if he or she was unWILLING to go into his/her garage and start the car with the doors closed, I should NOT be doing it for him/her.

I don't think it is a good idea. There might be a nice thought behind it, but prosecuters might question whether or not it was assisted suicide that caused that person to die or murder. One might end up in jail. If a person wants to die, they should not involve others with the situation.
And please don't kill yourself because you are 5'5. That's not so bad...

Commit suicide is stupid and only cowards will take it as a solution because they don't dare to face their problems.
But,I guess people like you have no value added to the society in what ever way.I think the question that you should ask is :
Where can I find the cheapest coffin and a nice cemetery ?

You might feel differently some day, and be very glad you aren't legally able to do what you want to.

Do you remember when you were five?

You will change as much between now and forty as you have from age five to now. Trust me.

So what answers do you want to hear if "god" and "jesus" will not work? When it is a known fact that most of the people's answer will boil down to that.

Just do what you like to do with your life. I'll mind my own.

No mercy killing for me...(period!)

Suicide is a permanent solution for a temporary problem.
