Considering society's negative view on elderly people, does anyone have any suggestions on how we can shift this perception to a positive one? While at the same time adding to the happiness of the elderly since they'll feel needed.

It works for me to give a bit of meaning to my life.

I feel like I'm one of the old wise people here, 43. Just from living a lot, nothing that special about my life really.

People who are 90 or 100 have huge amounts of experience. Imagine MLK in a nursing home getting NO attention. Or people who risked their lives to get the 40 hour work week. Or who dealt with the dust bowl. Or when the gov was labeling everybody commies, if they were or not. Think what they could teach us that is probably being lost.

My husband had a GREAT idea that I think could be expanded to help your cause!

Here is a school assignment, maybe for kids between 7th and 9th or 10th grade. Interview an elderly person (grandparent, friend, someone at a retirement village) and write a short biography of his or her life.

This helps young and elderly people alike in a number of ways:
1) It will give him or her a nice written life story to pass down to his or her kids, grandkids, etc. I would LOVE to have this kind of written history of my family around
2) It lends insight into today's problems - history repeats itself
3) It gives the young an appreciation for the difficulties in life that technology has overcome

Elderly are beneficial to society,
If we can get youth beneficial --then we are moving...

Children have cut their parents out of contributing to needs of others.
Rest homes-nursing homes--.
Leaving at home---Don't have time for aged----
