The "elephant in the living room" that drives all predictions is the 80 million Boomers that will retire within in the next 20 years. For the most part these folks are going to find themselves short on capital/income and to cut expenses they will move to less expensive areas. So, we are going to see a migration AWAY from cities to less populated areas. This will drive far better communications than we have today. It will also drive advances in medicine and biotechnology. We'll finally get past our irrational fears and start building nuclear power plants in this country.
Of course, we'll survive that long. The human race has faced far more daunting challenges in the past than we'll face in the next 100 years as far as survival is concerned.

If you had asked the same question at the beginning of the 20th century, do you think anyone would have said "computers and the internet"? It's pretty much impossible to predict what advances will be made in an entire century. In the first half of this century, however, we might be seeing:
Nanotechnology will be one big advance that's almost certainly in our future, most experts seem to say around 15-20 years: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanotechnology
Quantum computers are another good possibility, again likely within 20 years: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_computers
Maybe we'll see artificial intelligence. Although this advance was predicted long ago and is still far out of our reach, the power of quantum computers will be a big help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_intelligence
These are just some of the more obvious advances that we could see. Who knows what else is around the corner?

that's a standard one. If the international gets too warm, we've shown that we are able to proceed to exist it because of the fact the "Cradles of Civilization" have been in warm, dry areas. If the international gets chilly, then we've already shown that we are able to stand up to ice a protracted time, and that's with out any "extreme" technologies. If the international gets overpopulated, this is going to, out of necessity, stability itself out. i do no longer think of we could desire to be demanding approximately surviving the subsequent a hundred years. the real question is the thank you to we shop the subsequent a hundred years from growing to be to be the subsequent darkish Age.
