okay, so my friend's sweet 16 is being held this friday & she is going all out & it's COMPLETELY formal, and well, i never dress up. lol well actually, i dress up all the time, but not formally. if that makes any sense at all.

so i need some help. i bought this nice black shirt (long-sleeve, button-down) and i have black dress shoes. i also have black hair, & i feel that black pants would be black overkill, with only a colorful tie to offset the blackness. soooo...

does anyone have any recommendations for pants? because i am at a real loss. however, i HATE wearing lighter pants with a black shirt. & i don't mean lighter jeans...i do that all the time. what i mean is like khakis and whatnot.

well, if anyone has any ideas, that would be marvelous! i don't want to let her down because she's like my bestfriend. so yeahhh.

thanks!

PS the shirt is JUST BLACK. no pinstripes or detailing or nothing. but it's really nice. =D lol

also, thank you to whoever suggested that a skirt might look nice, but my friend wouldn't be happy if i did drag at her birthday. her parents are like...super not-humorous like that. and also, skirts are no fun. XD

What about dark Grey pants, or if your shirt is plain you can even wear pin stripe Grey pants, they are in and they look good , very sophisticated, i know what you mean about the black it can look too much if you wear black pants aswel.

I wouldn't do a light color pant (white cream) as it does not look too nice and I personally do not think it goes well together khaki is not a color to wear to dress up. Grey's and blacks are your best bet.

I wouldnt do the jean either then you will need to do a blazer, and you really need to know how to pull it off.

I would go with grey pinstripe, you will look hot.
good luck.

Well you'd be better giving up the black shirt for the black dress pants if you don't like going light on the bottom half. that way you can keep your black pants and wear any other colour dress shirt with the pants.

but if your mind set on the black shirt and you won't wear light coloured pants ( can't blame you) then the only thing you can do is dress up your waist area to break it up abit. I mean black is very nice looking put together can be casual or tastefull yet elagant looking.

so put a belt on perferably with a silver buckle not those truck driver buckles a nice clean yet smart looking one.

I think you can look very handsome with your black hair black shirt and black pants maybe just add a nice belt with maybe a silver buckle in the center of you keep your shirt open a few buttons and i fyou have a nice necklace you can wear that. if your going silver buckle go with silver jewelry. and if you dojn't have a nice belt then don't wear one please it will only ruin your effect if you have everything nice then put on a belt that does't jive your better off wearing no belt than one that doens't look right

What about a dark charcoal grey pair of pants? There will be a big enough difference so that you wont look like youre in all black but it will be subtle enough that it wont be two completely different colors. I also dont think all black is a bad way to go either, with the right tie it could be a killer look.

Well, honestly I like the whole black on black thing. I saw a lot of guys at homecoming with a nice black shirt with black pants and they had dark brown or either black hair.... and it was extremely sexy but dark grey would be nice

To off set the whole black theme get some Blak pinstripe pants. the pinstripes normaly come in White, Pink, Green and Silver. I would suggest getting pinstripped pants that would match your tie .

if you were goin for an over-all black theme you should try black pants with a lighter pinstripe down it. That should be fine. Or grey pants, but nice ones not old people lookin ones. :)

Maybe you should be returning the black shirt for a different color, because if it is as FORMAL as you say, you are going to be in a suit and tie ; CASUAL dress,>>> you could get away without a jacket,
She is going to love seeing you in a suit, I don't know why, but it just works !

Ok, so my sweet 16 is going to be totally formal too! LOL. I'm a pageant girl and I get REALLY into the whole dressing up formally thing you know? lol so...
Here's what I would do-
Buy another shirt, like... orange or something bright... and get a crazy tie with like polka dots or get a plain one and decorate it yourself with rhinestones (i think that would be hecka cool lol) and get white pants unless you know you wont be able to keep them white.... lol maybe you should stick with black pants lol

I love the all over black look. Looks very elegant and cool. Wear the funky tie to change it up a bit. You could have black pin striped pants, this could break up the black a bit and pin stripes are hot. Good luck and have fun
