Okay, my answer to this brain bust is this.. To have channel called BET and the main purpose of this channel is so that African Americans can have a channel devoted to them, is racist. Now before you stop reading because I said what you don't like, think of this.. If there was a WET channel, how would you feel?? I mean, if you weren't on this subject, and passed by the channel, how would you feel? A lot of people would feel that the makers of such a channel were racist. CMT. that was brought up a couple of times, I don't know if you know it, but NOT ALL WHITE PEOPLE LIKE COUNTRY. In fact, a lot don't, such as myself. And "white people have all the other stations" HA, I will leave that one at that. Ignorance, no, the feeling is justified==> When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans (most of you remember that), the CEO, Debra L. Lee, made the statement: "Once I heard that there were so many African American homes destroyed, I wanted to help"

Ask yourself this, if there only a few African American families there, OR just white families there, would BET still have helped?? My answer is NO, because of her anser.. I am in no way/shape/or form racist, and it is not racist for me to believe the idea of this channel is racist. I believe the reason there is no political debate about this channel is that most white people are afraid to do or say something about this channel because African Americans would become angry, not all, but most, and accuse that person of being racist...... Yes there are white people on commercials on BET, what does that prove??? And they occasionally appear in movies on BET, okay... what is that saying?? Point being, You can be racist and not have Racial slurs.. All it takes is something claimed as to be just for a particular race... {Old days = "white's only bathroom" "white's only school" very racist} {New days ="All Black Colleges" "Black Entertanment Television" not racist???}

I like your intelligent response to this issue. I wish that we could all just see ourselves as Americans and desire to help each other without consideration to race.
Personally, I wouldn't care if there were a WET station because if I didn't like what was on it, I could do something new and revolutionary...turn the channel. I do however like "white" music.
I see BET just like I see MTV or CMT, I don't like any of them. I hope you don't think that BET represents black America. That would be most horrific. The crap that is on BET is not what I want to stand for. That station rarely shows any positive black images. It exploits blacks for a profit.
It is time that we all stopped just seeing race and start seeing the individual. Sometimes, however, there are legitimate reasons to single out a race. For instance, my hair would be as brittle as dry hay if I used products marketed to whites. In the area of beauty and science/medicine we need to make a distinction because we have real biological differences. If the CEO of BET wants to fund a black beauty expo or a black health expo, that's fine since it is not a focus addressed in the mainstream. Blacks only make up about 12% of the US population. I hope that you can see that sometimes, people aren't always trying to be malicious when they separate but just trying to fulfill a neglected need.

I dont think it's racist...I hate that word......I think whites are different from blacks and blacks are different from whites. Black people go out of there way to be nothing like whites and pretty much visa versa...oh except for those white's who so want to be black ....if I were black , those are the people that would piss me off, not your typical whites....We need to make each other's race a promise....let the white folks get rid of the wanna be's and you blacks get rid of thug, low pants wear'in,sittin so low in your cars that you barely see a head,foul mouthed, no english speak'in( goin to my momma house),bass boomin car radio's,bling-bling wear'in,makin your home girls work two jobs at the seven-11 while you sit on the porch and drink 40's,havin 20 kids with 10 women and never be'in married, but back to the question at hand.....I wondered a little.......I dont care what stations you have or you listen to what I do know is that there is a break down in the black family.......Black men need to be real men and if you impregnate a woman be a man and do what is right( to many kids out there with no daddy's......and you women out there close your damn legs ...is it me or doesn't any women use birth control anymore...no they dont use birth control because birth control equates to (no check from the government.)....**** ...I dont know what the answer is, but i can tell you this.....we ALL are not going to hell in a hand basket, we are already in the basket and dropping fast........

BET is not racist and white people are on BET all the time, it's not like it's promoting black supremacy or hatred. And know one cares if WET exsisted I mean as long as it's not promting hate. And just so you know BET is owned and operated by Viacom the same company that ownes MTV, VH1, Nick, CBS and some other channels. So if white people think they should have their own network take it up with Viacom.

- You brung up all black colleges and tried to compare it to all white schools but anybody can to a black college and on scholarship; before Brown vs. Education if you weren't white you would not be attending an "all white school"
- And yes most stations are predominantly white and one or two black people are scattered throughout it; other than BET and the other station I can't think of a predominantly black tv station but that is expected by the name of the station but for all the predominantly white stations there is no mention that you will mostly see white people.

Unfortunately your question has fallen on many deaf ears....
Me?... my children are African American( their father was born and raised there, so i have a right to say that without being politically corrected) This being said, I will not allow my kids to watch BET. The reason... Why is it OK for their comedians, Vjs and such to make all kinds of jokes about white people that involve slurs and racist remarks.
So I agree with you and that aspect of your reasoning.

Right, I just saw a network for "WE" (Women Entertainment. And I read reations both w American men and women wrote about how "BET" was racist against whites as if the black network was raging violence against them. No black women said any thing about women networks. Most black men wouldn't speak against white men' opinion about women' network. But no one would think about the Women network or FX network or Sports channel. They know it's just shows just like the Oprah network or any. If they said so, it could contradict.

Either an all white channel and an all black channel are both racist or they both aren't. You can't have it both ways and say that one is racist and the other isn't.
