A maint required light comes on after the car passes beyond a preset number of miles. It is designed to get you into the dealer for scheduled maintenance. Every make, model, and even year has a different procedure. In 1981, Chevy's Chevette had an indicator like your, but it was a plastic flag. After the car went so many miles this flag would pop down, covering the odometer. You had to partially remove the dash and stick the tip of a pen into a teensy hole while pushing the flag up with your finger. My last bosses GMC truck has one of the lights that comes on every 3,500 miles. In his manual it gives instruction as to how to shut it off. They were something like this:
Turn the keys on and off twice, waiting 5 seconds between turns.
Turn key on and wait until light come on.
When light begins to flash, depress the gas pedal to the floor 5 times, waiting 5 seconds between each depression.
Turn key off. Start vehicle and wait ten seconds. Light should go off.
I'm only telling you all this because you will not get the info that you need with out telling the readers here exactly what car you have. Then you still might not get an answer. But, anybody who tries to tell you how to shut it off with out more details does not know what they are talking about. Really start with your manual, and try asking a dealer. Some might be nice enough to just tell you, or do it for a nominal fee..
Sorry guys.

If you ask a question like that with out telling us what kind of vehicle it is you can not possibly expect a credible answer. If you take advise from someone that tells you to take it some place like auto zone you are getting the kind of useless answers you deserve. Those places do not reset maintenance lights they are different from check engine lights. Every vehicle has a different procedure for resetting a maintenance light. Next time the proper info might get you a proper answer from a knowledgeable technician.

Go to your local autoparts store and rent a scan tool (my local autozone does this for free). It plugs into a little connector under the dash and interfaces with the vehicle computer. Using this controller, you can reset the error code, and find out what caused it.

The owner's manual for your car should have that info, or go to the dealer and ask.
