I also watched that meeting and while I disapprove of Webb's answer, the question was totally innapropriate. Webb is a decorated Vietnam vet with a son fighting in a war based on faulty intelligence. If it was my son, I'd be a little upset as well. And it is too bad Webb wasn't able to get hold of Bush, because while I respect the office of the President, I admire a decorated vet a whole lot more than a reformed alcoholic, drug using, liar who hides behind the nearest secret serviceman or needed Daddy's help in avoiding overseas service when called upon.

Jim Webb didn't answer the question. President Bush asked how his son was faring, not whether the senator supported the war effort or what he wanted done.
Everyone who has loved ones in combat (myself included) wants them home as soon as possible. That is a given. The difference is the TIMING.
I can't really answer the question as I'm not sure of the context or HOW things were said. However, if he did say it gruffly, I would say it is a symptom of his being worn-down by all the obstructionism for the past six years... I think he will be grateful to end his presidency in January of '09.

Perhaps the pedophile author was running thru some of his perverted passages in his head and did not hear President Bush, his boss, ask him how his son was doing. Very understandable, it was a hard and complicated question. I would suggest next time Mr Webb is in a big meeting with his boss he concentrate on that and no be day dreaming about perverted pedophile things! It must be embarrassing to have your boss ask you a question and you have no idea what he is talking about because you are thinking "those thoughts". No wonder he was cranky and snapped back at the boss.

Why might desire to you/the people get killed decrease than Obama's presidency? people/presidents who're appearing like George W. Bush extra or much less in undemanding terms following their own "regulations" having little or no information and interest touching directly to the the remainder of the international, inquiring for admire yet not treating others/different cultures/international locations with an identical admire are plenty plenty extra possibly to set off terrorist assaults or something appropriate. 9/11 didn'tt take place for no reason. i think of Gore Vidal replaced into precise while he additionally asked on the night of 9/11: What have we people performed to different persons/international locations that some people did hate us that plenty. there is often the regulation of reason and result. listening to others and attempting to artwork mutually on a partnership foundation that's what we desire on the planet! interior the long-term all of us will in undemanding terms stay to tell the story if we be taught to cooperate peacefully. If we don't we are all doomed.

It isn't fair for one soldier to go home just because his daddy is someone important. There is no draft, no one is in the military who doesn't understand there are people who want to kill them simply for being Americans, they may get hurt, even killed, no recruiter lies about that fact. Sen. John McCain could have been released from th Hanoi Hilton prison hellhole when the VC learned who his father was, but he refused to leave unless they all got released, that's what makes him a hero. I expect Webb's son has no intention of leaving Iraq early without his unit if given the choice, if he is an honorable man. And Bush, who is constantly hounded for any error in speech or grammar, was perfectly correct in his reply. He asked a polite question, Webb replied with a statement you would assume was obvious (DUH), but not an answer, and that is considered rude especially when someone is supposed to be a "statesman".

When the boss asks you a question, you answer it. So much for all the talk about wealthy, powerful people getting things their way. The question is, what makes this man so special that HIS child gets a pass? Is it because the asker was a Democrat and the answerer was a Republican? Can you spell D-o-u-b-l-e s-t-a-n-d-a-r-d? I don't align with either bias or party, but he should have answered the question the Boss asked him and not try to get more special treatment.
