My mother in law always does popcorn garland for her tree. This year she wants to add cranberries for a bit of color. She wants to know if she's supposed to do anything special to them to keep them from rotting off the string?

Tygress,
The times I have done this I have never had cranberries rot. The one thing they do, is dehydrate, getting smaller. This means you need to plan on either living with increasing space between berries (to a certain point), allowing a way to tie the strands tighter, or I have had good luck threading them on elastic thread found in the sewing department. I like threading 4 popcorn, 1 cranberry, 4 popcorn, 1 cranberry, etc. Use a thimble as well to prevent those sore fingers. Enjoy the season!

There's nothing you need to do. Just make sure they are completely dry.

I know one person who soaks their string in water every few days to keep them plump - but that seems to be too much effort.

No just string them.
