How do you make sure a Samsung cell phone is on silent mode?

like in class, how do i make sure the phone is not going to make a noise to alert me for a txt message

If it is like my Samsung phone, I just held down the # button for 3 seconds to put it in manner mode. The phone will vibrate if you get a phone call. You would repeat the process to bring it out of manner mode. If you want it completely silent, I believe you can turn the volume completely off.

If that doesn't work, then you may want to check at the user guide or your carrier's support web site.
