it is your life. Only you have the right to live it as u see fit. if you live it using someone else's desires and you are later unhappy, you only have yourself to blame. Good luck, I know the choices in front of you will be difficult to make and only you can make them.

Sounds like where I was about 15 years or so all over again. I wish in a way that I HAD just left and started the business that I wanted to which by the way I did a few years after college and now is REALLY successful. But, if I had, then I wouldn't have met my wife or found the faith that inspired me to truly reach for my dreams.

I can understand that your parents would want you to have a "back up" plan by attending college and graduation. BUT, as for a doctor or a dentist being "more prestigious" than being a successful business owner I have to disagree. I have friends that are doctors and dentist and I have to tell you. I live in a nicer house, drive a better car, me and my wife have no outstanding loans be they school, business or personal and some of our "more prestigious" friends are maxed out on their credit cars, in debt up to their you know whats and while a doctor or dentist they may be they may never get out of the debt they had to get into to become one.

So, your life is up to you. They enjoy what they do so being in debt for it is worth it to them but ONLY because it's what they want to do. But most in their profession do well financially in their later years. However, the sacrifice is worth it to them because it is THEIR dream.

So just realize that while this might upset your parents in the short run, in the long run it will be better for all of you if you follow your dream. You don't want to end up resenting them later. And not to mention the fact that you're of legal age and have the divine right to choose your own path in life. I say....go for it and Merry Christmas!!!

You should do what YOU want to do. Ultimately it's YOUR life, not your parents. You have to do what makes you happy. Sure, you might disappoint your parents a little, but I think deep down they just want you to be happy. They just wnat what's best for you. Tell them how you feel. Best wishes.
