I think so.

"History I believe furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance, of which their political as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purpose. " – Thomas Jefferson to Baron von Humboldt, 1813

Since the neo-conservatism movement clearly promotes religion in government, you can take "priest-ridden" and replace it with "neo-con."

FYI, though, Jefferson was a Deist, not an atheist.

John - A neocon is a Republican that believes in big government theocracy with a little bit of weak-form fascism. Does that answer that for you?

Our Founding Fathers would be disgusted by a lot of what is going on in politics today. Education on what these people believed is sorely lacking. It is amazing that so many great people were around when the population of this country was so small. We owe them more. They feared more than anything one religion dominating over others and a state religion. Think how important that is in this day and age, yet so many want to call us strictly a Christian nation.
What is most interseting is the letters between these great men. They may be at complete odds, but they would discuss the issues in a reasoned way and come to agreements to get the job done. The reason for all the protections is to protect everyones voices.

i dont think he would....i think kennedy and the great dems of past would be ashamed of the dems today...and the founding fathers did not want a state where you were told what religion to worship like in england. The ACLU is destroying what makes this country great freedom of religion. And when they say this is a christian nation majority of people consider them selves christian. Many of the founding principles of this country are christian principles, so leave the christians alone and be glad you can get elected to office regardless of your religion

I don't think just Jefferson, I think the vast majority (and probably all) of the Founding Fathers would be upset with it.

Our founding fathers are rolling over in their graves to see what has happened in this country. They fought for freedom to worship. I feel sorry for any child born in this country today. They will never know what a great country this once was.
