It's got all these funny pieces that look like you're supposed to be able to use them for something else - like the white plastic part that I can fit my iPod into, and that looks like it's supposed to slide into something else to hold up the iPod...does anybody know what I'm supposed to do with it? I didn't find any instructions.

ok, see the plastic thing is a dock adapter. if you go to an apple store, you will see the iPod docks with iPods in them. The dock has a removable piece in it to fit whatever iPod you have, in your case an iPod nano, if you want a dock then buy it off of apple.com. the dock lets you charge your iPod while standing up and its just a cool display thing. It also has a line out port on the back of it which lets you attach external speakers to it.
