I have a teardrop shaped ornament that was made by my now deceased father back in the the late 1940's while he worked in the neon tube bending business. It is made of very thin glass, is quite delicate and is traditionally hung on the tree each year by yours truly. After Christmas is over, it'll be wrapped in bubblewrap to protect until next year. There used to be a half dozen of these in the family in three different colors ( red, yellow and blue ), but the rest have either been lost or broken. I have the only remaining ornament and it is one of the red ones. I consider it to be an heirloom and it is obviously a real treasure. Wish I could show you a picture!

I'm sorry the others are gone, but glad you have one tangible piece left. Perhaps you could shadow box it, then it could be permanetly displayed and protected?

Yes, but I have so many favorites it is impossible to pick just one! I have one that is very old, made from my grandfather. He did string crochet work (very fine and fragile) and made us all a bell one year, with rows of tiny beads. It's meant to be a pin, but there's a loop to hang it on the tree too. He passed away when I was 16, but I still have the bell and have inherited some other treasures last year when gran passed. My holiday table showcases the huge linen table cloth that was started by my great-great grandmother after she got married. It is passed down from oldest girl to oldest girl and is covered with embroidery. One day, my daughter will use it.

You sound like a sweetie to care so much for that beloved ornament. I hope this one lasts and that your future generations will still honor it as you have!

My favorite is one I made in the 2nd grade. It was actually an angel we made that had an Ivory detergent bottle for a body, a styrofoam head, pipe cleaner halo, cotton for her hair, etc. Her head came off her body after several years, so my Mom put an ornament hook around her halo and hung her on the tree. She looks a little ragged after 42 years but I love it. She goes on my tree to this day! My kids tease me that she is ugly and they will bury her with me, but I do hope they're kidding. I've told them I'll come back to haunt them if someone doesn't put her on their tree each year!

Merry Christmas, friend! I love your Christmas Spirit!

I'm sorry the rest of them got broken. Those things must be really fragile.

I don't really have a single favorite ornament. I like them all equally.

wish these had never been broken I am so sorry. please take some photographs of this ornament before something happens. then perhaps you can make a similar ornament from the picture using it of course and save the chance of having this precious ornament broken and losing it forever.
