I'd live in my bedroom. I'd keep the door closed at all times. Your mom will eventually wonder why you're doing it. Maybe she'll get the hint and quit. Maybe she'll change her ways and not smoke in the house. Just tell her you're tired of smelling like an ashtray.

Well, idealy, she should stop smoking in the house. She should be considerate to your health and smoke outside. This might actually make her smoke less. My boyfriend smokes less when it's cold outside, he would rather not smoke than smoke in the cold. It helps ween him off for a while. I feel that if she hasn't been considerate enough all this time to smoke outside, she probably won't. My step mom always smoked around me as a kid inside our place. When people would come to hug me, they would say that I smelled like smoke. It's sad that as a kid, I smelled like an ashtray. Now that they invented febreeze, that might help a bit. I also suggest that you start to use an incense called Super Hit. It costs a bit more than packages you can buy at the dollar store, but definately worth it. I seriously don't like the smell of almost all incense, but this one is amazing. It makes the whole place smell like it. It's not overwhelming and doesn't give you a headache. Try it, if you like the smell, light some on occasion close to your closet (or in your closet) and your clothing will smell like it. Get the stick incense if you do, I find that the cones are too much. Maybe if you start doing that, she will realise what a pain she is being. Also, use hair products that smell nice to cover up the smell in you hair. If you do decide to put dryer sheets in your drawers like someone suggested, put them in the microwave for a few seconds to activate them, it works great. Use a nice body mist, I really like Hawaiian Ginger by Calgon. You can get it at any drugstore for really cheap. Or just don't hang around at home, she might start to miss you and start to try smoking outside. Talk to her about it.

Tell her how its affecting you and ask her if she can stop but she probubly won't give up that easy.
Ask her if you can reserve one room of the house for her smoking that has a door to close and a fan so that the smell won't spread. Then Febreeze everything wash the curtians everything to get rid of the smell and bissell the carpets. get the smell out then keep it in one spot possibly your moms bedroom where you don't go.

Since you can't get rid of your mom, let's help you get rid of the smell. I will not go into details how bad second hand smoking is for you; you probably know that already and so does your mom.

On clothes, you can use the spray called Fabreze -- available everywhere. On hair, you can get a spray called Light Elements Reviving Mist by Aveda (smells wonderful -- a mixture of mint and clover). Check out the latter at http://www.aveda.com/templates/products2/spp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY10538&PRODUCT_ID=PROD5931 Good luck!

Ask your mom to quit, or at least smoke outside, and tell her what you just asked us.

Febreeze (sp) your wardrobe.

Spray your hair with a fruity leave in conditioner like Herbal Essences.

Put dryer sheets, lavender satchels, cedar chips, or even try an open baking soda box in your drawers and laundry area. (If it works for the fridge, it may work for your clothes too!)

Keep your door closed if she's smoking indoors. And a towel under the crack.

Open your window and let the sun and fresh air into your room.

Wear a long sleeve shirt when you're in the room with her, and keep it someplace where it won't touch your other clothes.

Wear a scarf or hat over your hair when you're in the room with her and keep it with the long sleeve shirt.

Tell her all these things you're doing to keep the smoke away so she gets the picture and might make the decision to quit.

Always be honest with your family... it contributes to better communication and ultimately happiness in your home.

Buy a bottle of Febreeze. The smell will be nuetralized. Spray your clothes with it before leaving the house. Until your Mom quits you'll have to live with it.

I bet she doesn't even realize thee stank she is bringing on. I'm an ex smoker..4 months now..(for the 4 th time!!!..not easy to quite for sure)...anywasy..I'm more aware of the smell now than alot of non smokers..(natures way of getting us back..I'm sure)

Do you tell her how much it makes everything stink..even the clothes in your room..absolutly everything?..if she has never tried to quit she will not understand how much smoke travels and stays in things. I still smell smoke in clothes I had hidden away. ickkk...
As for the smell In you..unless she starts to smoke outside...there is not alot you can do The smell is there..lingering on the walls etc..you could use free breeze on your clothes when you go out..bu that is temporary.
I'm not sure where you are but here there is a full force smoking ban on all public places..now there is one in my apartment..no smoking allowed in any of the apartments..or on the door way of the apt block. Somewhat extreme..but it is how it is going here.
i know..that doesn't help..but maybe if smoking bans were more forceful people it would sink into peoples head how harmful they really are.
Just keep telling her..you are tired of stinking..and her smoking is making you sick..keep on nagging her.
good luck

GROSS! I know exactly how you feel. Both of my parents use to smoke. Now only my mom smokes. I make her go outside or go in her room to smoke because I cannot stand the smell. I don't want to be around it at all. Plus second hand smoke is very dangerous.

I don't think you can get rid of the smoke, ask your Mom to try going outside to smoke. Explain the problem to her nicely and talk about it. Maybe she might even decide to quit, that would be even better then smoking outside.

Soak them in your normal detergent, use some fabric softener in there also (about half the normal amount)
Let them soak for about 20 minutes or so prior to washing them, if its still nice outside where you are let them air dry, if not use 2 fabric softener sheets in the dryer. This should get rid of the smells for you. Good Luck
