What if you enlarge or reduce it from its original size? I work at Kinko's, where people copy their diplomas all the time, and no one seems to agree on what the applicable rule is, the genuises.

As long as the diploma is legitimate, and you do not alter it, making a color copy is no big deal at all.

It's definitely not illegal to make copies of a diploma.

Now, it's possible to take those copies and do something illegal with them perhaps, or maybe make small variations at the time of copying, but those are different situations.

Just copying is in no way, shape, or form a crime. Universities do not own a copyright on diplomas they provide to graduates.

No, why should it be illegal? I have to include my diplomas with resumes often and so what do you expect, that I send the original?

If someone is altering it by putting another name on it or something equally unethical, that is what it is, unethical. They will get caught for doing that too. People check up on where you graduated from, it's part of the hiring process.

Often, people want to make a copy to send with a resume. It is not illegal as long as it belongs to the person who earned it, and it is not being forged in the process (changing names, degree type etc...), but that is difficult since the issuing institution can verify what sort of degree was conferred.

no it isn't illegal. a copy of a diploma could be used for job reasons ( the employer wants proof of grauation).

what is illegal is to color copy photographs (not taken by that person), posters, etc that they intend to sell or distribute.

making personal color copies are covered under the fair use act .

Hey if you spend $30,000 or more on getting a college diploma, you should be able to print them off for wallpaper or bathroom tissue if you want. When you get into trouble is when you start making up bogus ones for people, like my BS degree in farm waste management :D
