who or what is most to blame for the tragedy?

in act V, scene iii, the prince says, "some shall be pardoned, and some punished." who should be pardoned and who should be punished?

consider:
-- which characters could have, at some point, changed the whole sequence of events?
-- what was the turning point that made the ending inevitable?
-- fate vs. free will

Friar Lawrence should be punished, no question.

Nurse was doing her best to help, and was also influenced by Juliet's constant promises of suicide.

Benvolio was the most sane person in the entire play.

Capulet could have given his daughter more of a choice of who she could marry--but choosing for one's daughter was common back then.

Lady Capulet was under the impression that Juliet agreed with her views on Romeo, so she was too in the dark to really have realized what her daughter was doing.

Lord and Lady Montague sort of tried to understand their son early in the play, so I assume they were worried through out the entire thing.

The point at which fate was sealed was when Friar John came back with the news that he was unablet to deliver the letter to Romeo.

nicely, the characters accountable are honestly Lord Capulet and Montague. in the event that they did no longer have the rivalry in the 1st place, Romeo and Juliet would not have a situation being mutually fairly of demise for his or her love.

it was the families feuding I think

thats the point of it I think

they would die for each other and proved it

what could possibly be more romantic than that

they wanted each other so bad that neither wanted to even live anymore if they couldn't have each other

anyone who is against mixed marriages of any kind should maybe consider and read the story

I studied Romeo and Juliet last year

The parents are punished by their childrens death.
the Frier (I can't spell!) can be pardoned because he was trying to help, he could have saved them if his watcha-ma-call it wasn't so long and he didn't keep tripping on it ...

The parents in the story are truly the most to blame, if not for the feuding then there would be no obstacles to their happiness.

I actually wrote an essay on this last year. Though it is all up to opinion, I picked Lord Capulet.
