He'll stare in your direction a lot and act embarassed, if he's the shy type. If he's NOT shy, he's probably already asked you out! If you're in a group that splits up and he always trys to go with YOUR group, he probably has the hots for you! Another way to find out is to ask his buddies or a mutual friend.
