Yes, you did indeed download a trojan (probably Trojan Zlob) from a site that said you needed a new codec perhaps?

Well, even though you have rid your computer of this trojan, it has already done its dirty-work by loading more malware into your computer. That's exactly what a trojan does, so simply removing the trojan doesn't solve the problem as you have found out.

Your computer now has what is called a Smitfraud infection. You will need to use a specialised removal tool such as SmitFraudFix v2.2:

or
RogueFix:

To remove this pest.

Even more Smitfraud info. is here:

Good luck.

You've been infected with spyware that's hijacked your home page, you need to clear that out by running a spyware scanner:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

It's 99% certain that you've been infected with this because you use Internet Explorer which is shockingly unsecure and allows the installation of all kinds of crap like this. Assuming you manage to clear out this infection, switch to a safer browser like Firefox or Opera or you'll undoubtedly find yourself in the same position further on down the line.

type in the name of the page you want to make your home page. Go to tools and click internet options. Where it says home page, select use current. This sets your home page to what you want it to be.
