I think there should be licenced brothels like they have in the US, this will not only keep the prostitutes safe but it could also reduce the spread of STDs because the prostitutes have to have regular tests and they have to use condoms, whereas street prostitutes rarely have this option if they are desparate to make money or if they fear for their safety.

In the old days religions have temple prostitutes. A vital part of worship. The swing of moralistic views toppled prostitution from it's important religious role and relegated to a standing close to the bottom of the social ladder. Religious leaders 360 degree change of attitude towards prostitution led to persecution...transforming the practise from good to evil. Now adays some States have recognised it as a profession and instituted health driven control over it.

At it's lowest denominator, some people perceived no difference between a wife bartering sex for a food, shelter, and other material things Vs a prostitute exchanging sex for money.

If your aim is to vanish prostitution (for whatever purpose), I am afraid, you'd fail miserably. It's a quixotic goal but keep trying. Perhaps we'll learn something new from your experiences.

Some women are forced into it (yes this still goes on today), some women become prostitutes because they have been abused as children and abusing their bodies is all they've ever known, and some choose it to support their drug habits. It is definately not a necessary evil... although it could be revamped so that there'd be a better (cleaner) way to go about it. I know in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada) they've started with this program where if you get caught hiring a prostitute, your car gets impounded. That way everyone knows that you've been trying to get a prostitute. I hope it's effective.

Prostitution is the oldest profession in the world. Therefore, I do not believe it can be stopped and it is a necessary evil. I think a great deal of the girls are just poor and drug addicted. I think we should do as they have done in Nevada with prostitution.

I used to work for a group that provided food, hot drinks, and condoms to prostitutes on the street. You're never going to eradicate prostitution, people have been selling sex for as long as money has existed.

In modern times, prostitutes are most frequently poor and exploited. If the business were legal, it could be regulated and taxed. The victims--the criminals--the prostitutes--could be protected.

No, prostitutes are not low life. They are forced by circumstance to sell the only commodity they have - their bodies. Some women stick to one customer (they get married) while others have multiple customers, and are called prostitutes. In both cases the woman is a commodity, an object, and is dehumanised and degraded. Because a large number of women are prostituting themselves in marriage it is more comfortable to pretend that it is respectable, and therefore socially acceptable. It is, however, no different.

Many prostitutes are just desperate for money and find it impossible to get money any other way (mainly for drugs) some do it as a way to support their family. I know in Nottingham They have a bus which goes around at night offering condoms out to prostitutes and also offering them a ear if they need to talk.
This is the best thing to do as this is offering them health support and protection, rather than hostility.

You'll never stop prostitution. Even Jesus stepped in to stop Mary Magdalene, a prostitute, from being stoned to death.

Nobody should look down on these girls for what they do. A lot of them are mothers who have no husbands or boyfriends and no qualifications of any kind. All they have is their bodies and they sell them to give their children some sort of life.

I don't think it means the people who sell themselves are 'low lives' or anything. it truly depends on the reason and the person. I believe is in a way evil though. i mean if your forced to do it by sicko's or against ur will it is in fact a for of evil. however if you chose to do it voluntarily, it really depends. like if you have no way of providing ur home with money then i understand it, but at the same time im sure its entirely possible for these people to get normal jobs as cashiers or something. so it doesnt mean ur a low life or anything but whether its done voluntarily or against ur will it does involve a certain lowering of self respect and standards to give away something so precious.
honestly i think it wouldnt be such a big problem if it wasnt for men. i fdont mean to be sexist, but not THAT many women order prostitutes as compared to men. same with rape cases. men just ask for sex and excitement and because in many cases they get it, women themselves feel tthe need to sell emselves in a way. thats why we're dancing on bar tops and dressing in mini skirts, for men. i think its disgusting that this is happening and even worse that now us women are enforcing it ourselves.
