Try MaxBlaster, it will transfer everything (files, programs, the OS).
Firewire is faster that USB 2.0.
Also, if your new computer has Windows XP, you can use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. It will move everything you have in My Documents, for instance. But it doesn’t move programs. They will have to be reinstalled on the new computer.
There are also a few programs around to help make this move. The best known is Alohabob’s PC Relocator. Installed his program is on the old and new machines. Then the data is transferred via USB or parallel cable.
PC Relocator transfers everything—programs, folders, files, settings. So the settings you have within your programs are retained. But this also means that if you have junk on your old computer, you’ll have junk on your new one. Before you make the transfer, clean out your old files.
If you use PC Relocator, don’t go for the parallel connection—that is old and very slow technology.
You can also move your stuff via CD or DVD, if you have a burner. Copy the things you want to move, and then reinstall them on the new machine.
One other solution, if you are handy: Remove the hard drive from your old machine, and install it as a slave in the new one. Then copy the things you need to the new hard drive.
