According to Genesis the Tree of Life was a tree that grew in the Garden of Eden. After the fall of man we were forbidden to eat of the fruit of the tree of life. According to this story there is no way that a human could access the tree of life. Botanically speaking, there is a tree that has a latin name that means tree of life, the Lignum Vitae, it was named this because its sap is believed to help cure arthritis and several other ailments. But, the similarity in name is not an indication of similarity in fact. The name of Lignum Vitae was assigned almost as a joke refering to the Tree of Life in the Bible. From a Wood working perspective, Lignum Vitae, one of the species known as "ironwood" is the hardest, densest wood known to man. It has interlocking grain that makes it difficult to work, and it is oily so it does not glue or finish well. It has been harvested to extinction on some of the Islands that it is native to and should only be purchased from certified sources. Lignum Vitae is the only tree that has the botanical name Tree of Life. Other trees may be refered to in the local tongue as "the tree of life", but Arborists and Botanists can only assign that name to one tree.

When I was seventeen I planted what was known as a Schumach tree in my parents garden, it's common nickname was, tree of heaven. I remember it as having fronds like fern and this is the closest I can come to your query other than, the garden of Eden which, was supposedly and apple... but it could have been any fruit I guess, apple being a metaphor for fruit.
I've pasted this introduction from the page before the link below it, the link itself leads to information about, and pictures of, the tree in question, I personally love its colours and have always thought of 'tree of heaven' when I see one:
Ailanthus altissima (shrub, tree)
Ailanthus altissima is a very aggressive plant, a prolific seed producer (up to 350,000 seeds in a year), grows rapidly, and can overrun native vegetation. It also produces toxins that prevent the establishment of other plant species. The root system is aggressive enough to cause damage to sewers and foundations.
Common Names: Chinese sumac, stinking shumac, tree of heaven

Throughout the Bible things are written in parables. The Tree of Life is a synomyn for God's teachings. Eat of His Bread(learning his word) and have everlasting life.

That would be the species Arborvitae. It was called the tree of life by early pioneers in North America because it's bark contains vitamin C, and helped prevent scurvy. You can verify the Latin name and it's translation here:

No one knows. God told man that he could eat from any fruit tree in the garden except from 'the tree of knowledge'. It was the tree of good and evil and if eaten from it you would die. When Eve ate from it she gave her husband a piece of fruit and he ate as well. That was the beginning of sin and when Adam and Eve went agaist God's wishes they went being able to live forever to death being the end result. Although for us to live forever would have never worked because of over population, but God knew before Adam and Eve ate from the tree of life that they were going to do it. Thanks Eve, LOL. Remember that God knows everything that we are going to say or do before we do it.
