Yes, do an "upgrade" installation rather than a "clean install" and you'll retain all your files and programs. Once you're finished, go to the Windows Update Site and reinstall your Windows updates.

You should always back when doing something major with the system. As far as I know, there are no major critical system operating changes between Windows XP Home & XP Media Edition. Media Edition simply has more features tailored to multi-media experiences, so it should be okay to upgrade. Good Luck.

upgrades do not affect any type of data file on your computer . If you have a dvd writer you can back up all your data files on one dvd. The Dvd holds around 4.5 gig and the CD only holds 700 meg . No problem though an up grade will not affect your data files.

it quite is obtainable - all you're able to do is purchase a disc out of your community computing device save, positioned the disc on your computing device and set up - yet i does no longer. at the beginning, you're probable incorrect with the incompatibility subject concerns - something it relatively is compatible with XP professional (XP) is ninety 9.ninety 9% probably to be compatible with XP Media midsection. besides the fact that if XP Media midsection isn't indexed on the field/case, it does no longer recommend it quite is incompatible. it quite is relatively XP professional with a pair of lacking good factors and the Media midsection software. i wish this facilitates and besides the fact which you do - do no longer downgrade!
