I need ideas/links/websites for do it yourself gift bags / christmas bags. My husband and I are traveling over the holidays and we can't wrap the gifts because of airline security and we don't want to spend much time wrapping when we get there (would rather spend that time with family) I need some help to help learning to decorate the bags. Thanks so much....

One of my favorites for smaller gifts is to take a paper lunch sack - use pinking shears or other special scissors. Cut the top of the bag off. Use holiday themed stamps to stamp images on the bag. Use colored pencils or markers to color in (something to do while on the plane...) if you'd like. Use a hole punch to punch holes a couple of inches down the bag and put ribbon through the holes -- use ribbon to gently cinch bag. Use tissue paper as well inside the bag.

You can also buy larger bags at the craft store and do the same thing on a larger scale.

Happy holidays!!

Plain brown bags can be made to look extra special. Cut sponges in the shapes of stars, moons, gingerbread men, etc. and stamp gold or silver stars, etc. all over the bags. Or stamp in red and green colors, and sprinkle gold and silver glitter into the wet paint before it dries.

If you have time for delivery before you leave town, go to www.orientaltrading.com, you can buy packs of gift bags. Some are very plain, others are already decorated with santas, snowmen, angels, etc. Very reasonably priced.

You can buy plain paper gift bags (with handles) in various colors at almost any craft store. I would use colored tissue paper and buy a few rubber stamps and ink and stamp all over the bag and/or tissue. Quick , easy, and minimal dry time.

You could go to Martha Stewart's web site or HGT V's Carol Du val show.Another good site is http://familycrafts.about.com. Have you given any thought to saving yourself allot of time, and just purchasing them. If you have a Dollar Tree store in your area, they offer a huge variety of beautiful ones. They also have the tissue etc. you will need for filling. I suppose any dollar will have the same thing.
