I am a Mom and I have a Shuffle and a Nano. I actually prefer the Shuffle. Yes, it has no screen...but it's playing MY music and I know what songs I have so why do I need a screen to tell me what song it is? I told someone recently that the Shuffle is like listening to a radio (because you don't know what song will be on next) but only with songs I like!
And if your budget is a concern, the Shuffle is only $79! If you order it from Apple.com, they have free shipping and you can even have a small quote or her name laser engraved on it for free!

This probably depends on how much she uses it. If she is going to use it alot, I would recommend the nano. Another thing to consider is that there is a limited amount of space on the shuffle so if she does begin using it more, there is no way to upgrade it. It is probably better to get the bigger one. It is more expensive, but ultimately, probably worth it.
Personally, i think they are both easy to use and I know if I were getting it for my mom, she is not all that technically savvy and the screen on the nano is easier for her to use.
Good luck and Merry Christmas.

First off both of them may be small but very nice at that and moms are responsible and tend to lose things less than kids do. The new i pod shuffle clips to your shirt or pants etc and is very sleek and small. It is hard to lose things clipped to clothing items that wont be taken off unless you are in the privacy of your own home go with the shuffle

Frankly, I wouldn't recommend either of them. They are both so small that they are easily lost. I know my mom is extremely busy (as most moms are!), and it is easy to forget things that aren't very big.
I would recommend getting her a plain ole' iPod. Check eBay for good deals. I just got a 20 gig ipod with accessories for $150 including shipping.
Happy Hunting!
