What is the best compound for a street/strip 351c engine. The two ends are rubber, but I was wondering if a bead of RVT or just plain Fel-Pro gaskets would be best.

Read the directions in the Fel-pro set. A lot of times they want the gaskets installed dry. If it says to install the gaskets dry, I would follow their advice. Usually it says on the box, "this gasket kit contains a blah blah gasket, do not use sealers, install dry."

Run a small bead around whole pan and block, spread with finger then put extra bead at all corners and let those smash out as you tighten.the rubber ends should have bead on both sides as well and more at tips. When the silicone dries use a razor blade to clean up around pan. 3m is great for gaskets that likes to slip around on machined surfaces but an oil pan is not straight and gets distorted when installing.Silocone (RTV HI-TEMP BLACK) is flexible and strong enough to handle the distortion, oil, heat much better than 3m( 3m will work if thats all you got) You only want to do it once, RIGHT?

I use 3m weather strip adhesive (yellow) . I have seen too many motors that had silicone pieces in the oil pick up tube and/or radiator from people who slop on a ton of it to make a gasket seal.

If ya gonna put all that crud on there why you need a gasket ???
I put a few pan gaskets on and all I used was sewing thread, from the wifes' sewing basket , and tied each bolt hole, never had a leak. Gaskets have a purpose and this other stuff defeats that purpose.

Dont let the silicon "squish out and cut of the excess" . The extra will wind up stuck inside the motor somewhere you dont want it.
