My employer wrote me a check for my payroll, but I'm not sure if he has enough money to cover that check (heard from another co-worker who went ahead and cashed the check, but ended up the employer didn't have enough money then. My question is that if I go ahead and deposit this check, say if the empploer didn't have enough money, will I get charged from the bank (Chase Bank) for returned check? I know if there isn't enough money, employer will be charged for insufficient fund, but what about me? Will I get charged too? and how do I find out whether he has enough money?

Go to the bank and try to cash it there or call the bank to ask if it there are enough funds to cover the amount.

You will get charged if you deposit a bad check. If you do, you can get the charge reimbursed by your employer. If they don't you can sue them or file charges with the district attorney for a bad check.

call the bank and ask them if they can cover your check for $452.33..if they say no..then no...your employer didnt have enough money......but by going to the bank, you dont get charged.....if you depposit it..you get charged....now....if you cant wait any longer...deposit the check..and if you get charged, you are just going to have to get it out of your employer.....you are allowed to deposit a check up to 3 times.......if the first time it doesnt work, do it again....i would do all 3...some people dont know this......and once the 3 times is up...better confront him/her.....and make sure u file claims to sue your employer...dont forget to include charges for depositing a bad check......

Instead of depositing it, just go inside the bank and cash it. That way there won't be any fees toward you and then once you have the cash, you can deposit it.
