I charged the battery. Car starts but it only stays on for a few minutes. The battery is one month old. I also had the alternator replaced with the battery. the alternator is used. I got it from a junk yard. What could be the problem?

Usually when a car stalls and seems that the battery is dead, the battery is dead but a bad alternator made it that way. The alternator will go bad and then start using the electricity from the battery until it's dead.
Can you jump start the car with jumper cables? If the car will start with the jumper cables on and then dies once removed, it's still the battery or alternator. The alternator may still be bad and it's killed your new battery.
Get a new battery from where you bought it.
Once the new battery is installed and you've jump started and it keeps running, it could still be your alternator. The test is... once the car is started and you've removed the jumper cables, remove the positive cable from the battery, if the car quits, it's your alternator.

When I want to buy junk, I go to a junk yard too.
An alternator produces an AC (alternating current ) this needs to be changed into a DC (direct current) with use of a full-wave three phase bridge rectifier inside the alternator, If one phase (diode) is bad the alternator may produce 13.0v but it will have a peak loss and not provide enough amps (push) to recharge the battery thus you have been operating on battery power. have the alternator checked at a parts store for free.

a car with an altenator will not operate with out a dc current to the altenator for the magnetic stator field.
a generator (permanent magnets) will operate without a battery.
An alternator (dc current magnets) will NOT without a battery.

What a bunch of dumb answers. The alternator won't "kill" your battery. The alt. may or may not be good. Did the junkyard guarantee it ?? Anyway, get it started , don't disconnect any battery cables. Thats a good way to mess up your engine computer. You have a gauge of some kind on your dash that will tell you if the alt. is charging. If it is not check the fuse in your fuse block. If fuse is ok I would go back to junk yard. by the way don't buy another battery yours will be fine once alt. problem is solved

Your battery is brand new and working alright but your alternator
is defective and will not charge the battery. You can buy a new
alternator to solve a problem...

Most likely a bad alternator. You can have it tested for free at Autozone.

MAIN PROBLEM IS YOUR ALTERNATOR. THE BATTERY MAY HAVE CHARGED ITSELF UP ENOUGH TO START YOUR CAR AT FIRST THEN BUT LACKED ENOUGH AMPS/VOLTS TO RUN IGNITION LATER. STILL HAVE THEM BOTH CHECKED AT SAME TIME.

the alternator is shot, or it was not installed properly
