Yes, born in Dublin, much to his dismay! He said, when referred to as being Irish: 'Being born in a stable does not make one a horse.' In the Phoenix Park, in Dublin, there is a monument called the Wellington Monument that was being erected by the British colonists here as homage to him. It has never been finished and now that it depends on the Irish completing it, never will be!

Which one? The current one was born in Rome in 1915 and is English. The original Duke of Wellington was or Irish birth.
