Ok I finally let my husband get a snake...would only allow lizards up until today we got two Kenyans anyways I wanted something that did not get too big since I have a toddler and well do not want to be irresponsible getting a snake too big...I have read up on them and everything said they were a good snake but one of the python breeders said that they were very nippy and that he has been bit mostly by Kenyans...any thoughts on this also the pair are het. for snow and knowlege on that too??? Thanks. My husband is very knowledgable on pythons and most reptiles he just never owned one of these.

I've never been bitten by a Kenyan sand boa and have always found them to be very calm snakes. They're some of my favorites because of the feel of their skin and their small size.

As far as breeding, if both are het for snow, then you should have approximately 25% that are homozygous dominant (don't carry any snow trait), 50% heterozygous (show dominant trait but carry het gene) and 25% that are homozygous recessive and are snow.

Good luck! I'm sure those are going to be gorgeous babies!

All snakes are individuals. My rainbow boa was supposed to be nippy as a baby and he has NEVER offered to bite. A large majority of kenyans I've worked with have been perfectly docile. One or two have been a little bitey at first, but a little time and work will take care of that no problem (plus a bite couldn't do much damage anyway..). They are awesome little snakes, I love `em to death!
Genetics crash course-
As for being het for snow, it just means that they each carry a snow allele, and if you bred the two together, the offspring would be roughly 25% snow, 25% normal, and 50% het for snow (if you did decide to breed them, and wanted to sell the babies, then ~75% of the babies would be normal colored... but there would be a 2/3 chance of them being het, but you can't prove it, so they would be referred to as 66% het for snow)

Cool snakes. Any snake (or pet, for that matter) can be nippy. Get them used to handling that isn't associated with feeding. Also, they are small enough, a pair of gardening gloves and a long-sleeved shirt should protect you from a bite. Check the limk for info on your pair, they might have info on them. They breed lots of rare ones.

Sand boas are very doscile. I sure hope you got a snake that was captive bred. Handling tames any animal down. If your snake hasn't bite your husband yet, then he isn't going too unless startled.

boas tend to be less agressive if you feed them frozen or dead foods also handle them reguarly
