Christmas is a man made holiday. We do not know when Christ's birthday is and we should be celebrating his birth every day not just once a year at man's convenience.
The story of Jesus birth is a beautiful one and can be found in Matthew 2; Luke 2;
The true meaning of Christmas is simply being with friends and family and sharing gifts with someone you have probably not seen in a while.
And yes it is nice to know that people can actually think about God and Jesus once a year but really ...Do you think that pleases God.?
We can reach out to God every single day any time, day or night... How do you think He feels when so many reject His love?

The true meaning of christmas is not to celebrate Christ's birth. The date december 25 is a pagan Roman holiday called Saturnalia. The day of the birth of the sun god. The date was chosen by the Roman catholic church to conform to the old pagan ways. The word Christmas means Mass of Christ, chosen also by the roman catholics. The day is not known of Christ's birthday. It was an excuse for the people to continue the customs of Saturnalia. If any of you looked up the origin of christmas it would tell you what it truely means. We are celebrating something that is pagan and has nothing to do with Christ.

thats the thing..there is not best answer to the true meaning of christmas. christmas means something different to everyone and others need to realize that. if they did it would stop all this fighting about saying happy holidays and merry christmas or xmas or about it being about presents. if Christmas means the birth of the Lord to some then let them celebrate that. if it means celebrating winter to others then let them do that and if it means giving gifts to others then let them do that. as long as each person has their meaning of christmas alive in their hearts then thats all that really matters.

My meaning of Christmas has nothing to do with giving and getting presents, or how much am I going to spend, or waking up early to catch that one great sale. Christmas to me means waking up and fixing a tummy pleasing breakfast for my family and staying in your jammies all day, watching movies and listening to the happy laughs of my children playing. Snuggling up with my husband and kids and taking cat naps throughout the day. I lost my mom 3 years ago on December 18th so Christmas hasn't been the same since, but my house is decorated with some of her decorations and we go to visit her at the cemetery and my children believe that Grandma is an Angel up in heaven with God and she is looking down upon us taking care of us. They also know that they are loved and that the true meaning of Christmas is that of our Savior being born. I am a Christian but not one who forces my religion or beliefs on other people. I believe in God and am currently reading the Bible the Old and New testaments (it's been about 20 years since I last read it) and I haven't been to church in a few years, but I know in my heart what I believe and this is what I will teach my children.

The true meaning of celebrating a time of family, food, light, warmth, gifts, love and joy at this time of year goes way farther back than Christianity. It is a normal thing that humans have done probably since time immemorial. To celebrate life and light in the midst of darkness, to have hope that the cold would end, to thank Diety for its gifts of food even in the snow and cold and darkness THESE are the "true meanings" of this time of year. This time of year was chosen by the early church to celebrate Jesus' birth because Jesus represented Light (spiritually) in a time of Darkness and oppression and cruelty and hopeless and joylessness. But many societies who are not Christian also celebrate at this season, so remember this in the midsts of your celebrations, that Joy, Thankfulness, Remembrance, Love and Family are true reasons to celebrate.

Cherish your family and friends while you have them with you here on Earth. Take the time to make sure that the people you love know that you love them.
That's the essence of Christmas to me.

It is a man-made holiday to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Most consider the date to be incorrect, but to be chosen for pagans who had celebrations for the winter solstice. Unfortunately, it has been turned into a commercial holiday, and is slowly losing it's reverence as santa becomes more known and celebrated than Jesus.
