I prefer Mandalay Bay because they have great service and gorgeous rooms at prices that won't break the bank.

Depends what you're looking for and what your budget is, but if you mean 'luxury' when you say 'best' then I recommend THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay. Most people who stay there don't ever want to stay anywhere else again... in fact they get angry when they want to stay there and it's soldout. It's a 5 star resort, but it is not gaudy like some of the other five stars.... instead it is 'executive' style with classy but subdued decor and flat screen t.v.s in every room (including the bathrooms). It is also an all-suite tower, so you would have a separate bedroom and sitting room. Request a high floor with a strip view for one of the best views in the valley. Go to www.mandalaybay.com and click on the 'THE Hotel' ad on the home page for more info and rates.
Other great five star properties include Bellagio and Wynn, although many people think Wynn feels a bit snooty.

I stayed on both the strip and downtown Las Vegas. Surprisingly, I found downtown vegas to be very charming. I would suggest the Golden Nugget. You can still hit the strip and visit all the big hotels, but there is just something about the Freemont Street Experience. I liked the old time feel.
